What is the Safe Havens Program?

The Safe Havens program was established to fund communities to create a coordinated response to the issues of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence and/or stalking in child custody cases. The CJCC partnered with SAFFT, Forsyth County Family Haven, and No One Alone (NOA) to create a coordinated community response to domestic and dating violence in the child custody context. An implementation grant helped provided the foundation of this program. Although this program is designed around keeping families safe from additional violence, not all families served in this program have a history of domestic violence. The program is open to any court referred family or private party case.

What are Supervised Visitations?

Supervised Visitation refers to contact between a non-custodial parent and one or more children in the presence of a third person responsible for observing and seeking to ensure the safety of those involved.

What are Supervised Exchanges?

Supervised Exchanges is supervision of the transfer of the child from one parent to the other. Supervision is limited to the exchange or transfer only with the remainder of the parent/child contact remaining unsupervised.

Role of the Visitation Center

We have a unique opportunity to identify needs and gaps in services for child(ren) and adult victims, batterers, and the community at large. Visitation centers serving child(ren) and adult victims of domestic violence are in a position to:

  • Provide a safe space for children to visit with the non-custodial parent
  • Help keep child(ren) and adult victims of domestic violence safe during exchanges and visitation
  • Hold batterers accountable for their violence and abuse during visitation and exchange
  • Be part of an expansion of services to support child(ren) and adult victims
